Lina Kennedy: The Courage to Invest in Yourself

What happens when you grow up watching your parents struggle with money, and then spend 12 years building the education and career you hope will create a different future? Dr. Lina Kennedy, a board-certified dermatologist and practice owner, joins Maria and Jodi to share a powerful money story about scarcity, student debt, entrepreneurship, and learning how to build wealth on her own terms.
Raised by immigrant parents from Mexico and Ecuador, Lina grew up seeing financial stress firsthand. After years of education, significant student loans, and a career in medicine, she eventually discovered that becoming a high earner didn't automatically mean understanding money. A mentor helped her navigate taxes, business finances, and the leap from 1099 physician to practice owner, and taught her to see certain kinds of debt not as something to fear, but as an investment in herself. Lina also opens up about the realities of building a business while raising children, the importance of delegating and protecting your time, and why she's choosing balance over chasing growth at all costs.
This is a conversation about breaking generational patterns, turning income into wealth, finding mentors who are willing to share what they know, and defining success for yourself. Lina's story is a powerful reminder that financial education doesn't always come from school, and that sometimes the most important investment you can make is in yourself.
